David and I were best winter friends from the late 60's to early 70's in Elm Ridge. We had so much fun snowmobiling and skiing, bumper riding. Going up into the woods by snowmobile to cut our families' Christmas trees. I have many home movies of those times takien by my Father Charles (Charlie). The entire Mademann family are and were such kind people. Dr. Paul was like a close uncle to me. I rember the family mutt Jasper and how he would always get into fights with our adopted next door neighbor's dog, Rinney. Once our famliy sold their house in Elm Ridge, David and I drifted apart a little, but I too remember having Christmases and Thanksgivings in the awesome house on South Street which I loved to visit, especially the offices and all of the cool equipment in the basement. I once broke down in Windham while on a road trip with my girfriend from her college as a senior in Mass while I was a senior in high school. Dr. Paul lent me his luxo-cruiser Cadillac to get her back to school. I had been trying to connect with David over the past two years and unfortunately ran across this obituary yesterday. I miss David's big heart, broad smile, hearty laugh and sensitive nature. My love goes out to him and his family. Love, David G. Diehl and Family

I met David when I was 6 years old. We were teenagers together and our families spent many memorable Christmas and Thanksgiving Holidays together. I will never forget all of our good times -- skiing, hiking, snowmobiling in the flats at Elm Ridge with big roaring bonfires, being mischievous as kids, David picking me up on his motorcycle and cruising, listening to the Grateful Dead with our group of friends at Darren's house, the Klondike -- and the memories go on and on. David had the biggest heart and was one of the most sensitive people I ever knew. I will truly miss him and I will never forget him.

Dear Mademanns,
Our dear wonderful family friends of 40+ years, I am so very sorry that David has passed. Please accept my condolences and those of my family. Our hearts and prayers go out to David, you and friends.
There are so many wonderful memories of David. Unfortunately, I cannot find the right words to express my sadness and a tribute to him at the level it should be. Therefore, I have decided to share some of my thoughts and the very happy times we had together; the two of us, as families and on behalf of my children. I remember a warm, happy David Mademann, part of a loving family in a wonderful home - and even as a kid, David always smiled!
David was always such a great, easy going guy. He always wanted to do things, adventures - have fun. From the early years of chasing Jackson on the golf course, summer tennis and skiing, to all those days and nights out on a snow mobile. The family had them at Elm Ridge as I recall, but David got his first one in high school. I remember the thrill of screaming through the woods at night with him, behind the house and all the way to the trails behind the Hensonville Food Lockers, then to the NYS trails to Hunter. This was great fun and David was always the host, guide and Merry Maker. Always a smile from the leader and he always laughed with you, never at you.
Our family had several Thanksgivings together at the Mademann home on South Street. They were great times, always ! One year we skied in Hunter with Big Paul & Lenny Bell the day after Thanksgiving and the next year it was 60 out and we played some tennis and a few holes of golf. David would take me out back to shoot 22s, we tried bird hunting, but never saw any birds, so we shoot up the tress. If you want a great smile, think of the poster Jack Goldsmith made for the Mademann 25th , it hung in the mirrored bar area off the living room – remember what he said to do with the whistle !
Paul liked music and in his room upstairs he had a key board and all sorts of cool musical stuff, lots of fun. I got to know him in the summer of 1971, I had a job teaching forest rangers to ski in Barilloche Argentina, Paul came down with the Peter Klempa ski racing camp and 25 of us ended up at the same chalet, Perners. Paul brought rock cassettes from home and although I was only 16, I occasionally would sneak Paul out to see the hot night spots.
I remember making the big fire pit, (8 x 10, 3 feet deep with wood, rocks and bags & bags of charcoal) with David and Mark Sarazon for the 1976 Bi Centennial party next to the tennis court. It must have been 100+ and not a puff of wind all day. When David & Mark put the 200 LB chunk of beef on the spit, every animal for 25 miles came to see what was cooking. David was in charge of turning the meat spit and we would alternate jumping in the pool. What a great time ! Like so many at Mademanns. The New Years weeding anniversary parties, (no kids), Easter, any Saturday or other night, everybody in the pool including the dog – great family gatherings ! David with a smile.
In 1979 I ended up taking Cathy and her cousin visiting from Canada, to Westhampton to a bachelors ‘group’ beach house for the weekend. They were just kids of 15 or so, as we roared off in a 1967 Bonneville convertible, I am sure Mary & her sister had thoughts of “how can we let those attractive young girls go off for a wild weekend with them “ – I kept them safe in the ocean and they slept on the floor at the foot of my bed with the door locked ! I also remember Cathy singing her own composed songs and playing the guitar, she was pretty good, “Mothers & Fathers” is the song I remember most. I also remember what blast we had at her weeding at the old ski area base lodge !
In later years, my sons Scott and George had the pleasure of knowing David and spending time with him. He was like a very cool big brother or uncle to them, always generous of his time, hospitality and toys. Many winter nights ridding in the woods with him and later on ATVs along the river. The family picture of us one year was on Dave’s multiple ATVs. He even hosted an outing for my older son Scott along with his high school friends on snow mobiles at night. David could not have been nicer and Scott loved it, every kid at Darien High knew about it and I have a picture of them all to this day on my desk. Thanks again Dave.
My son George spent a lot of time with David on winter weekends and some in the summer during his high school years. David always, always went out of his way for him. When we bought him David’s old snow mobile, it meant more that it had been Dave’s then what it actually was. David had a very positive and embracing impact on my son. David was a true and sensitive caring friend to my George. David, George had great times with you and admired you very much. Thanks again Dave.
I have many more great Dr. Dave memories. Swearing to each other we would lose weight, snow mobiles to Jimmy O’Conner’s for refreshments, on the roof putting up the TV antenna at my parents home, David working for my parents, Dottie & Jack in the summer while in Chiropractic College, 9 holes in the afternoon, the boat, trying to get him down to Yankee games or to fish on our boat, BBQs at the house and watching football, my New Years eve date where I brought David to diner with us !
I will say again Dave, thanks. Thanks for being a great friend to me and being so great to my children. I know there are a lot of people, patients and friends that are saying the same thing – THANKS DAVE !
David, I hope remembering the good times brings you and those bereaving joy.
All the very best,
Scott & family.

Dear Doc, Mary, Paul & Kathy,
Words cannot possibly express how very saddened we were when we heard of David's passing. He was always such a gentle and easy going man. I remember that he always kept himself busy when I was at the office on South Street. He would often come into the office on Saturday mornings to make sure that everything was alright. We would end up chatting for quite awhile.....conversation was easy with Dave.
We pray for David and will pray for all of you in this time of loss. It is never easy to find the right words to express to family and friends, but I try to encourage them to focus on all the wonderful memories. When I think of David, I can see his big smile. It would light up his face. That's what I will remember!!
Please take care.....our thoughts, prayers and love to all.
