Obituary of Donald Lynn Tompkins

Donald Lynn Tompkins died in an automobile accident May 11, 2018. Don, son of Bob and Joyce Tompkins, was 59 years old, born and raised in Ashland, NY. Don attended Colgate University and University of Arizona, graduating from Colgate. Don lived in AZ, CA, CO and NY. Business took him on trips around the world. In his 40s, Don returned to Ashland to help his mother, Joyce, take care of his Dad, Bob Tompkins. Don had continued to care for his mother, who’s health had declined, after Bob passed away. Joyce has been moved to Robinson Terrace in Stamford. Don loved researching the history of the Tompkins and Enderlin families. He enjoyed learning the history of the mountaintop. He loved to watch his great niece pitch in softball games. He was always interested in what his nieces and nephews and “greats” were doing. Don took his Mom for road trips to Iowa to visit family twice in the last few years. Don’s future goal was to raise Scottish Highland Cows. The day before Don died, his sister, Nancy, was in town, and Don was able to spend time with a Colgate college long time friend. Charlie said it well, that Don was one in a million, devoting his life to caring for his parents. Another friend said she so appreciated his quick wit and intelligence. Don devoted 15 years of his young life to caregiving of his parents. Don was buried in Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Ashland, in the Wescott Tompkins plot. Don was an amazing, loving son, an incredible brother and loyal friend to those who loved him. He will be greatly missed. There is a place in heaven for Don. Rest now, baby brother, you deserve it.
