Obituary of Robert J. Middleton
Robert J. Middleton, 87, of East Jewett, New York, formerly of Oakland, NJ, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2019.
Robert was born in New York City to Harold and Charlotte Middleton on August 12, 1931. Robert grew up in NYC and served in the US Navy from 1951 – 1955 on the USS Shangri-La and USS Antietam Aircraft Carriers. On March 21, 1953 he married Linnea Geiling and together they raised four children. In 1961, Robert and Linnea moved to Oakland, NJ where they resided prior to retiring to East Jewett, NY in 1996. Robert was a talented artist and attended Pratt Institute after which he worked his entire life in NYC as owner of a successful Outdoor Advertising business know as Mack Sign Company.
Robert will be remembered as a funny, generous and loving man and his family was his life. He enjoyed reading, coaching baseball, sports, history, and home renovation projects. Robert is survived by his four children, Raymond, Laura (Martin) Blanden, Elisabeth (Kevin) Kelly, and Robert (Kris), his nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by Linnea, his loving wife of 65 years.
A memorial service will be held at Decker Funeral Home in Windham, New York on March 23, 2019 from 1-3 pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Legion or VFW.
