Obituary of George E. Anderson
Ashland, New York-George Edwin Anderson 81, died March 11, 2012 at the Veterans Hospital in Albany, NY. He was born on Oct 7, 1930 in Proctor, VT the son of Gustave and Ethel Carlson Anderson. He was one of eleven children, Arvid, Eleanor, Robert, Irene, Ruth, Bertha, Gordon, Eunice, Enid and Richard. He graduated from Proctor HS and joined the Navy. He served for 20 years, aboard the USS Waldren, USS Lexington and the USS America. He served during the Korean War, Cuban Missile Crisis and the Vietnam War. He crossed the equator and sailed around the work two times. He retired from the U.S Navy in 1975. He then went to Barber College in Schenectady, NY. He became the apprentice to Doug Goff in Windham. He then ran his own barber shop, "Andy's" until 2007. He was a member of the Ashland Community Methodist Church and served as an usher.
He is survived by his wife Lula (Holdridge) who he married in 1964, and has four children, David, Walter, Neil and Sonja. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be at Decker Funeral Home, Windham, NY, on Friday March 16, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9. A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 am at the Ashland Community Methodist Church with Pastor Richard Lenz officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Ashland, NY.
In Lieu of flowers Memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Ashland Community Methodist Church.
