Obituary of Richard O. Johnson

Dick Johnson 1927-2017 Born in Roselle Park, NJ in 1927, Dick graduated from Monmouth University, Monmouth, IL in 1949. His first job was in LI working for National Dairy. He was drafted in 1950 and stationed in Bremerhaven, Germany where he met his bride Marian Evans. They wed in 1954 and began a family in Cranford, NJ. He took over Hexacon Electric, founded in 1932 and continued to work until his retirement in 1997 when he and Marian moved to Windham full time. Dick was a lifelong outdoorsman and naturalist. In the mid 1970's he helped to preserve Sunfish Pond a glacial lake close to the AT from a hyrdoelectric project. He could be found on his land: stocking the pond with brook trout, raising chickens and a calf and tending his bees. He founded the Catskill Mountain Beekeeper's Club. He is survived by Marian Johnson his wife of 63 years and his four daughters Elizabeth Tailer of Essex, VT, Kathi Schwaiger of Roselle Park, NJ, Sue Hughes of Flemington, NJ and Robin Bryce of Cambridge VT. Dick and Marian have eight grandchildren. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity of your choice. Service will be held Saturday Dec. 2, 2017 at 1 pm at Hope Restoration Church in Windham, NY.
